Changing the Direction of the Country

In an article entitled, WND Dumps Ann Coulter from Miami Due to Homoconflict, Joseph Farah, founder of the World Net Daily, makes this comment,  ”If we’re serious about changing the direction of the country, we’ve got to start policing ourselves.”

The basis for this comment stems from the fact that Ms. Coulter had accepted a speaking engagement from GOProud, the homosexual faction of the GOP. Ms. Coulter defended herself in accepting this speaking engagement by commenting that, “it was just a job.” Farah on the other hand disagrees with the idea that speaking at a homosexual rally is only a job. Farah comments that such a speaking engagement legitimizes the initiatives that the GOProud is promoting in the GOP as a whole, and Coulter, in this case, is tacitly giving approval to what the GOProud stands for.

The Bible is very clear on this topic of convictions. Jesus, speaking in Mt. 12:30, makes this statement, “He that is not with me, is against me.” Earlier, Jesus makes the comment, “you cannot serve two masters.” (Mt. 6:24) Farah’s decision to cut Coulter from the Miami conference is well within reason.  Coulter cannot speak at both events when the GOProud rally is a pro-homo event and Farah’s WND event is promoting just the opposite.

As Christ followers, we need to become much more defined in our convictions with our spending habits – who, what, and where, where we send our children to school, and our involvement (or lack thereof) in the political arena. Far too often we are way very passive about these and other categories and end up going along with the cultural flow. God has commanded us to stand out, to buck the current, and to be firm in our convictions – are we for Him or against Him.

In this mid-term election year this concept becomes even more important. The candidate that we support needs to be an individual that we have thoroughly researched his or her personal values and political track record. Those individuals that do support Godly principles should be the first candidates that are researched. Those who do not support Godly principles are not worth our time.

The WND article provides for us a vivid reminder that we need to be careful to what and to who we lend our allegiance  – openly or tacitly.

“How Christian Were the Founders?”

Please take some time to read the article entitled, “How Christian Were the Founders?” by Russel Shorto. You can find this article at this link: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/14/magazine/14texbooks-t.html?pagewanted=1

Mr. Shorto though trying to come across as objective, his strategic use of some words definitely demonstrates his position on this issue.
