JAGUAR NEWS
Can we do good things apart from Christ? Can we be good examples apart from Christ? Those can be difficult questions to answer. We think of Matthew 19:17, “There is no one good but one, that is God” and understand that the only one good and unblemished sacrifice who was able to pay the price for our sin is Jesus Christ. But we can also recognize that even people who do not know Christ as savior can “do” good things or even be “good mentors.”
Isaiah 64:6 reminds us that “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags.” The importance of this verse on my heart today is to remind myself that my desire is not to separate Christ from “good deeds,” “good works,” “good examples,” or good “mentors.”
We can identify people in our children’s lives who are good examples of kindness and compassion, but are they pointing our kids to Christ? It is important to recognize what we have here at Valley Christian School. We are a body of Christ made up of teachers, staff, students, and families that agree that One Lamb, Jesus Christ is the Perfect Sacrifice. We do not and we cannot separate “good” from Him. We cannot compartmentalize Him to one area of life: school, church, home, etc. It is convicting. We are human and it is easy to make this mistake.
Today I just want to share with you a great resource for you family to take advantage of. It is called “Parent Kit: Discipleship and Household Habits.” It is a tool within Summit Ministries.
I encourage you to check out the articles and videos available. The one shared below is only a little over three minutes but makes the distinction between mentoring and discipling.
