JAGUAR NEWS

DEAR VCS PARENTS AND FRIENDS,

Last week, I started off the newsletter with a little bit of a word play on the word “taste.” I have immensely enjoyed the produce from my garden giving praise to the Father every time I go out there. With the dry growing season that we have had (maybe just at my house), there should have not been anything to harvest, yet the Lord has seen fit to bless. I have a neighbor friend that farms quite a bit of land, and he messaged me a picture of the monitor reading in the cab of the combine. The monitor showed that he was getting almost 70 bu./acre of soybeans. That was way more than he expected making him busy praising the Lord.

I hope you enjoyed that bit of a detour. However, I want to get back to the concept of “tasting” and what that has to do with “let me tell you about my Jesus.” King David makes this emphatic declaration, “Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! – Ps. 34.8 In this declaration, he is inviting you and I to see for ourselves that the LORD is good. Just like you and I, with our garden produce and/or processed products from that produce, invite others to taste the goodness, David is asking us to do that in a spiritual sense. When we do that, we find out “oooh that is really
gooood! (Sort of like that hot salsa or a hot cob of sweet corn lathered with butter and sprinkled with salt. Is your mouth watering yet?) Spiritually, our mouths should be watering for the LORD in the same way. The more we “eat” of Him, the more we want of Him. The good news is that we have the written Word in our native tongue so that He is readily available to munch on and that we never get “full” of Him or tired of His “taste” as we sometimes do with physical food. With His Word, all we have to do is open it and read. Lastly, we will never inadvertently chomp down on something that is rotten (think tomatoes) for He is ALWAYS good. So, happy munching, crunching, and scrunching!
