JAGUAR NEWS

DEAR VCS PARENTS AND FRIENDS,

In the “God is” series, this week I want to talk about the fact that “the LORD is my rock and my fortress.” The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. (Ps. 18:2) As I read this verse, immediately, Martin Luther’s hymn “A Mighty Fortress is Our God” starts playing in my head. The lyrics of the hymn are so powerful. I would suggest that you crack open that hymnal and read through them (or just scroll to the bottom of the letter). With the state of affairs in the world today, it is a comfort to know that whatever comes, we can rely on the One that is staid and secure, the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Continue to pray for Mrs. Kerr, our Kindergarten teacher. She has been out all this week. When I talked with her last, she commented that the doctors seem to think that she has a deep-seated sinus infection that is causing the symptoms experienced. The problem is that most medicines that would easily conquer such an infection she cannot take as she is allergic to them. So, pray with me that the Father would reach down and divinely heal her.

The next regularly scheduled VCS Board meeting will be Tuesday, April 5th, @ 6pm. Please submit any items to me that you would like the board to consider by March 22nd. At the meeting earlier this week, there was much discussion about the new school initiative – exciting things brewing. Please pray about your financial involvement and for the Father to shower down His resources and wisdom in this initiative.

On Mar. 8th, the Winter sports banquet will be held at the school. Contact the office for more information.

As I am writing this letter, the VCS varsity basketball teams are gearing up to leave at about noon today for the season ending CAL tournament. Also, our own Payden Nichols will be going to the state hockey tournament playing on the VCS/Somerset co-op Bantam A team. We have other hockey players that have been playing on the co-op teams, but their teams were eliminated this past weekend in some real heart breaker games.

The past couple of days I have been walking about the school looking at the Ed Fair projects that are nearing completion. Some very cool projects. It will be inspiring to see all the projects displayed at the fair. I trust that you have marked your calendars accordingly – Mar. 17th @6pm. Also at this event, the school allows parents to re-enroll that night and waives the registration fee. I would encourage you to make sure that you get your children re-enrolled as we are now starting to put prospective students on a waiting list.

A quick reminder that the SLT (Student Leadership Team) Praise and Prayer night has been rescheduled for Mar. 15th, @ 6:30pm. Update your calendar and plan to attend.

Next week, I will be sending out the sign-up for the parent/teacher conferences that are coming up on Mar. 22nd and 24th. Though your calendar shows that only the 24th is scheduled for conferences, the success of the Fall conference over two days/evenings propels us to do it again for the Spring conferences.

Pressing forward for His glory,

Ron Brace

A Mighty Fortress is Our God

1 A mighty fortress is our God,
a bulwark never failing;
our helper he, amid the flood
of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
does seek to work us woe;
his craft and power are great,
and armed with cruel hate,
on earth is not his equal.

2 Did we in our own strength confide,
our striving would be losing,
were not the right Man on our side,
the Man of God’s own choosing.
You ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is he;
Lord Sabaoth his name,
from age to age the same;
and he must win the battle.

3 And though this world, with devils filled,
should threaten to undo us,
we will not fear, for God has willed
his truth to triumph through us.
The prince of darkness grim,
we tremble not for him;
his rage we can endure,
for lo! his doom is sure;
one little word shall fell him.

4 That Word above all earthly powers
no thanks to them abideth;
the Spirit and the gifts are ours
through him who with us sideth.
Let goods and kindred go,
this mortal life also;
the body they may kill:
God’s truth abideth still;
his kingdom is forever!

Psalter Hymnal, (Gray), 1987
